Good story right here. If I remember to take pictures before they redress my wounds, I'll post them.
Our studio project is a set of site proposals. We have the overall site and all we had to do individually was was build the buildings and the smaller site. I blocked out all my stuff yesterday so I just had to cut today. I was on a roll. I had cut everything out and was onto sanding. My grad mentor, Ryan, came over and told me not to get my fingers too close to the sander. He walked away and the next second, the wood had slipped between the sander and the ledge and with it went my fingertips. I yanked my fingers back and for a split second I thought I was okay. Then I looked down and saw the blood in my palms. I ran to the sink and someone turned the water on. Someone else grabbed one of the shop guys and after I rinsed my fingers off, he put band aids on them and told me to go to UHS. I walked in there and told the woman that I had sanded off my fingertips and I was admitted pretty fast. They looked at them and made me soak them in warm, soapy water, which stung until I had tears in my eyes. Then they cut off the skin that was all icky with wood bits and sander. Then they put burn stuff on them and bandaged them up. Now I can't shower without gloves on, can't get my fingers wet, and have to go in soon to have them redressed. Oh right, I also have a written exam on Wednesday. Sweet.
Here is a picture of the fucker that did this to me.

I think it's sad that our generation is going to be remembered through their pictures as only being able to take them at arms length.

| Local nabbed for lewd act at library |
[20 Sep 2007|01:19pm] |
A 29-year-old Hamburg Township man was found performing a lewd act while accessing online pornography at the Hamburg Township Library Monday afternoon.
Damon Freeman — who was suspected of committing the act on two other occasions within the past five months — was charged with three counts of being a disorderly person and obscene conduct, a misdemeanor that carries a potential penalty of 90 days in jail and/or $500 fine.
"He was engaged in inappropriate behavior," Hamburg Township Police Chief Steve Luciano said. "They were familiar with him and had prior contact with him."
Freeman was arrested and arraigned Tuesday in Livingston County 53rd District Court, and lodged in the Livingston County Jail, where he remained Wednesday on a $1,000 cash assurity bond.
He will appear in District Court on Oct. 15.
Library Director Holly Hentz said complaints were made about Freeman's similar behavior on two other occasions, both resulting in verbal warnings.
Hentz said Monday was the first time he was caught directly in the act by library staff.
"I highly commend the staff. They saw something going on before any patron did," she said.
"This is the first for us, which I think says a lot about the community. We have a very nice community here, and something like this is quite shocking," she added.
The township library has four computers that have access to the Internet, which patrons sign in to use for 30 minutes.
It's the library's policy to dismiss someone from the library if a person creates a disturbance, or if a complaint is made.
Hentz said patrons can't be removed simply for looking at adult pornography in the library. She said that would violate First Amendment rights.
"It's not something encouraged, of course, but it is not illegal," she said.
Freeman has been permanently barred from the Hamburg Town-ship Library and all of its property.

Chocolate Jesus
Can you imagine buying a anatomically correct chocolate Jesus and then going to work the next day and saying, "Guess what I did last night! I ate Jesus!"

There was an article in the Michigan Daily today about student-athlete role models. The point they were debating was whether or not such students should be considered role models. Isn't it obvious that the answer is yes? I started to read the article and was shocked that there were students who though that no, they shouldn't be. If you are on a sports team, people are going to look up to you no matter what. That's what sports do in our society. They provide role models for children. Kids dress up as athletes, they draw pictures of them, they watch the games just because their favorite player is playing. At Lakeland Elementary, there are kids who wear their favorite athletes jersey on "Team Spirit Day" during Spirit Week. Would you want your child wearing the jersey of someone who was just convicted or faces a conviction of possession of marijuana or assault and battery? I wouldn't. Being on a team puts you on a different standing with society. Being a leader of a group does this too. I was just elected the secretary of AIAS and that means that I have to put my best foot forward. I am a leader and a role model to some. As a section leader in high school I was under the same scrutiny as the student-athletes. I was a role model. I had to watch what I said and what I did because I knew that younger students were following my example. I had the stress of being a section leader, taking classes, holding down a job, and keeping some semblance of a social life. It is not more pressure to tell the student-athletes of the University of Michigan to watch what they say and do. It's not necessary to have a "panel" to discuss this. People are watching. Suck it up. Be a role model.
